The islands of St Helena and Ascension are amongst the smallest inhabited islands and certainly the most isolated. They are British Overseas Territories and those who live there and call themselves “Saints” are proud of their British background and tradition. They have a legal system derived from England but this has been developed by local Ordinances and Case Law.
The economies are too small for there to be any private legal practice so the Public Solicitor’s Office has been established to ensure that all those resident on the islands (both Saints and other residents) are able to have access to legal advice.
This web site is the Official web site of the Public Solicitor and has been established to provide information to both residents and those outside the island who need legal advice or representation.
We maintain rigorous professional and ethical standards as required by the Law Society of England and Wales. We are credited with the Law Society’s practice management accreditation (LEXCEL).
The first time you talk to one of our legal experts is free – so you can talk to us and not worry about a big bill the moment we say “hello”. When we work for you, we promise “no hidden costs”. You will know exactly what to budget. You can always talk directly with your lawyer. Communication is important. That’s why we never use legal jargon when simple words will do. And if you have a question, call us, it is never an inconvenience.
We look forward to hearing from you.
